Firework scheme targets under 18s
Posters are being put up across Nottinghamshire to remind young people of the dangers of fireworks.

New laws mean it is now illegal for anybody under the age of 18 to be in possession of fireworks at any time.

The scheme aims to stop youngsters setting them off in the street and warns people who do ignore the warnings risk getting burnt - by the law.

Last year 30 people in Nottinghamshire were injured by fireworks around bonfire night.

Firework abuse

The penalty for firework possession by an under 18 will be a fixed penalty notice and fine of 80.

The scheme, under the "Respect 4 Nottingham" banner, has been organised by the City Council, the County Council, and the county's fire service and police is being launched on Tuesday.

Nottingham City Council leader Cllr Jon Collins said: "All our communities have the right to a bit of peace and quiet when they are at home.

"It's out of order that anyone should fear going outside because fireworks are being let off in the street.

"Bonfire night can be great fun for adults and children but there's no excuse for anyone to be misusing fireworks at any time."
