Littering will result in a 50 on-the-spot fine
People who drop litter in a Nottinghamshire town are being warned that on-the-spot fines will continue.

Several residents in Mansfield have received 50 fixed penalty notices in the past few weeks, for littering.

One woman motorist was fined after being spotted throwing a cigarette end out of her car window.

The woman was driving on Sutton Road when she was seen by Mansfield District Council's litter enforcement officer to be littering.

He was in a car behind the woman and followed the vehicle to a road junction where he was able to get a detailed description of the driver and car registration.

The enforcement officer, Terry Farrelly, said there will be no let-up in the town's hardline policy.

At least five other people have already been fined for dropping cigarette ends on the pavement, the council said.
