Tram and lorry collide
A lorry has hit a tram during a test run in Nottingham.

The accident happened on Monday morning when a tram in Radford Road was struck as the lorry tried to move out of the way.

The lorry driver was asked to move his vehicle as it was obstructing the track but during the process it collided with the stationary tram.

An investigation is now underway and the tram is being repaired and should be back running on Tuesday.

No passengers were on the tram and no one was injured.

A Nottingham Express Transit spokesman is urging motorists to take extra care when parking near tram tracks and ensure that their vehicles do not obstruct the lines.

Tram spokesman Colin Lea said: "It is fairly minor damage. It has smashed one of the single doors on the side.

"The tram has double doors down the side and single doors at the front, what we call the driver's doors.

"It is relatively easy to fix and hopefully it won't take long to sort out."

Testing will continue until the system goes live in spring 2004.
