Police warn 'boy racers'

Hundreds of drivers protested against the police action
Hundreds of people have protested in Nottingham city centre against a crackdown on "boy racers".

Nottinghamshire Police say around 200 customised cars joined in the protest on Sunday evening near the Broadmarsh Centre.

The demonstration follows the confiscation of a car last weekend.

The vehicle was seized by police after its owner was given a formal warning to stop causing a nuisance.

Customised cars

The protestors say most drivers do not break the law, and only want to enjoy their hobby.

Some of the drivers had posters saying "Cruising is not a crime".

Police officers say some of the customised cars are being driven dangerously, and that the Sunday night meetings are putting lives at risk.

The protestors say they want somewhere to show off their cars without being harassed by the police.

Police say dozens of drivers have already been sent formal warnings and if they continue causing a nuisance their cars will be confiscated.
