Protestors are angered at plans to fell the tree
A man dressed as an Arch Druid has been arrested at a court hearing in Nottinghamshire.

The County Court in Mansfield was dealing with an application for a housing developer who wants to evict 30 protestors who have set up camp in the branches of a 300-year-old beech tree.

The man was arrested because he was wearing a ceremonial sword and dagger.

The hearing was adjourned until 29 September and the protestors have agreed to allow inspectors to examine trees on the site.

Bellway Homes have promised not to cut them down in the meantime.

The company wants to remove the 60-foot tree from the site in Mansfield Woodhouse because it is blocking the route of a road to new houses set to be built there.

Bellway Homes say although the tree cannot be replaced, the development will include six hectares of open space with hundred of trees which local people can enjoy.
