Plans which could lead to the multi-million pound redevelopment of a major shopping centre in Northampton will go before councillors next week. Northampton Borough Council is looking at signing an agreement with Legal and General, the Grosvenor Centre's leaseholder, to back redevelopment. If the plans are backed, the council will look at at expanding the centre as well as redeveloping it. The plans could also see the demolition of the nearby bus station. Cabinet member for regeneration Richard Church said if the council approved the plan, it could see the largest single investment ever in a project in the town. He said the agreement "would be a significant step towards the wider regeneration of the town centre".
