Fairline has managed to keep full time hours for 1,000 workers

Hundreds of staff at a boat-builders in Northamptonshire have been put on short-time working hours.

Fairline, which makes luxury yachts from three sites in the Oundle and Corby areas, said global economic conditions had forced the move.

From Monday 365 employees of the firm will be working a new two or three-day week instead of their previous hours.

The new working hours will be in force until Christmas, and for many staff it means a 40% pay cut.

Four production lines will work a two-day week and a fifth line will work for three days a week until Christmas Eve.

The boat building company has kept full-time hours for 1,000 other workers.
