Shopping centre plan moves ahead

Traffic restrictions are due to be put in place in Northampton as part of a 3m plan to improve the shopping area.

Delivery times will be restricted and buses and taxis will only have access to Gold Street to ensure pedestrians and cyclists priority under the plans.

The project aims to improve the route from the railway station to the town centre for visitors and shoppers.

A consultation on the project is being held by the Northamptonshire county and Northampton borough councils.

Ben Smith, of Northamptonshire County Council, said: "Northamptonshire is due to undergo a great period of growth and it is vital that we create more employment, retail and leisure opportunity which will be required by our larger populations.

"This body of work is a key part of rising to this challenge by improving the shopping areas and general environment of the town."
