Crackdown on village youth crime
Police now have powers to move on troublemakers in a Northants village where youth crime is a growing problem.

In five months to the end of February, there were 219 crimes reported in Barton Seagrave, of which 90 were incidents of criminal damage.

A dispersal order to combat the troublemakers will run until 18 June.

It covers an area bordered by Barton Road, Belvoir Drive, Woodlands Avenue, Grosvenor Rd, Hilltop Avenue, Gotch Road, Polwell Lane and St Botolphs Rd.

A police spokesman said part of the problem was large groups of youths who had been intimidating people using the Latimer Community Arts College.

Parents can play a key role in helping us to stop this problem

Pc Dave Ambrose, of the Kettering Community Action Team, said: "We want people who live, work or are visiting the Latimer Community Arts College facilities to feel safe and secure without being intimidated by large groups of youths.

"We are conscious young people need somewhere safe to go and where they will not be continually moved on, however we will continue to make full use of all the powers available to us to ensure everyone enjoys a decent quality of life."

Posters will be displayed throughout the area detailing the terms of the order.

Anyone failing to comply with the order can be arrested and prosecuted.
