11 jobs for disabled people axed
People with physical or learning disabilities are being made redundant as a council tries to cut costs.

Up to 11 staff, on assembly lines or making road signs, are to lose their jobs at Duston-based Nordis Industries owned by Northants County Council.

The council decided on Monday night to accept the recommendations of a consultancy report that could save it 150,000 a year.

It said there would be no redundancies until March 2006.

Councillor Rosemary Bromwich said the people who were going to lose their jobs would be redirected to other sheltered workshops in the county.

"No-one's being made redundant until the end of the financial year," she said.

"So we're giving a lot of time to see what's best for them in consultation with them and their carers."

Nordis employs four managers and up to 34 people with learning or physical disabilities.
