Corby is the biggest European town without a train station

Corby is one of the biggest towns in Europe without a rail service.

Hopes were dashed in the latest development document which has just been published.

It states plans for rail services are "not under active consideration, even for as far ahead as 2021" but will be re-examined as Corby grows in size.

The strategy details that upgrades to the rail interchanges at both Kettering and Wellingborough are to be considered over the next seven years.

Local people hoped that Corby would find a place in development plans for the area where 167,000 new homes are planned to be built across Northamptonshire, Buckinghamshire and Cambridgeshire.

This was going to be the spur for new infrastructure to support the doubling of Corby's population.
