A survey in Northamptonshire has reported that 75% of the public support the use of speed cameras. Northamptonshire Police carried out a phone survey of 325 people to discover if there was support for safety cameras on the county's roads.
Three-quarters agreed with using speed cameras to help reduce road casualties.
Only 40% felt there were too many cameras in the area while 70% felt they were being used as a safety measure and not as a way to punish motorists.
However, 65% of those questioned did believe speed cameras were an easy way of making money out of motorists.
Don Powell, from the county's Safety Camera Partnership, said: "The results are very encouraging and show that we do have the support of the vast majority.
"But we do have some way to go to convince people that we are not here to make money."
