New academy to teach trade skills
A new pilot scheme to teach construction and industry skills is being set up in Northamptonshire.

The Trades Academy, to be run by the Tresham Institute of Further Education, will help meet a need for bricklayers, carpenters, and plumbers.

The training centre is being set up as part of a regeneration package for rural areas of east Northamptonshire.

The area has recently secured 1.86m from the East Midlands Development Agency (Emda) to spend on regeneration.

Private investment

East Northamptonshire District Council will spend the cash over the next year.

Other projects include the regeneration of Thrapston - a master plan will be drawn up for the town centre, looking at the future use of the cattle market and other sites.

Cash will also be made available to appoint new staff and advisers to develop community based and environmental enterprises in the area.

John Richardson, leader of the council, said: "This is excellent news for East Northamptonshire."

It is also hoped the funding will attract private investment to the area.
