The anti drink-drive message will be at the bottom of glasses |
Drinkers in Northamptonshire will find messages at the bottom of their glasses over Christmas as part of a drink-drive campaign. The glasses - etched with a drink-drive warning - have been delivered to 45 Pubwatch pubs in the Daventry, Towcester and Brackley areas.
The campaign has cost 1,500 and has been paid for by the Daventry and South Northamptonshire community safety partnership groups.
The move follows a similar scheme which operated in the Kettering area during the summer.
Pc Tam Dunn, licensing officer, said the glasses were a great way of getting the anti drink-drive message across.
"We hope this very direct message to drinkers will remind them that drinking and driving will not be tolerated, and that they will put their car keys away and walk or phone a taxi," he said.
In 2002, 40% of drivers breath tested on Northamptonshire's roads were found to be over the drink-drive limit.
