Deal agreed over stadium
Northampton Town Football Club
David Cardoza will take over the lease of the Sixfields ground
A deal has been agreed to hand control of the Sixfields Stadium to the chairman of Northampton Town Football Club.

Although all the legal details have yet to be sorted out, it is thought the Cobblers' owner and chairman David Cardoza will take over the lease of the Sixfields ground from Northampton Borough Council for just 1.

He will inherit running costs estimated to be about 400,000 a year, but could get permission to redevelop the stadium.

One of Mr Cardoza's long-term aims is to raise money for the third division club through commercial ventures.

Councillors met on Monday to agree the deal in principle, but when the running of the ground will be taken out of their hands is unclear at present.
