Police in Northamptonshire have begun a new initiative to cut down on vehicle crime in the run up to the holiday season. The force says the aim of Operation Keep is to disrupt car crime and reduce the number of offences and victims.
As part of the operation, the public is being asked to name people they suspect of being involved in thefts of, or from, vehicles.
While vehicle crime is going down nationally, in Northamptonshire there has been an increase, up 11% from last year in the six-month period ending on 30 September.
Detective Chief Superintendent Mac McCulley, who is leading the campaign, said police will use technology to focus on known offenders and crime "hotspots".
He said: "We believe we will receive enthusiastic help from the public and from organisations such as Neighbourhood Watch.
"This response will include the fast-tracking of the intelligence and information we receive from them and via Crimestoppers."
He said the aim was to show a significant reduction in vehicle crime in Northamptonshire.
