Conservatives in Northamptonshire are celebrating major victories in Thursday night's local elections.
The party has taken control of the councils in Wellingborough and Kettering, and has the greatest number of seats but no overall control in the former Labour stronghold of Northampton.
The Tories have also increased the party's majorities in Daventry, South Northamptonshire and East Northamptonshire.
Labour remains in charge in Corby but the party's leader on the council, Rob Hearne, lost his seat.
Labour's Jimmy Kane, who won the highest number of votes for any candidate in Corby, said his party could not ignore its reduced majority.
Phil Larrett, who won a seat for the Tories in Northampton Borough, said the swing against Labour was not solely caused by anti-war votes.
With no party in control of Northampton Borough Council, the Liberal Democrats could form an alliance to take control.
Lib Dem leader Richard Church said he would negotiate.
Chris Millar, leader of the Daventry Conservatives, said the result was a protest against the Labour Party.
