Olympic gold medallist rower Andrew Triggs Hodge from North Yorkshire has been made an MBE in the New Year Honours after his win in Beijing. The Skipton rower took the gold medal in the men's coxless four race. York scientist Professor Henrietta Leyser is appointed CBE along with Professor Thomas Roberts of the Central Science Laboratory. The head of the Superbreak tourism company, York-based Nicholas Pury Cust has been appointed OBE for services to tourism. A former manager of Askham Grange prison, Carol Ann Burke, has become an MBE for public and voluntary service. While Gillian Eweis, the assistant Anglican chaplain at the high security Full Sutton prison is appointed MBE for services to prisoners.
