Thousands of rail passengers travelling on the East Coast Mainline are facing major delays because of an overhead power line problem in North Yorkshire. Services between York and Darlington, in County Durham, have been suspended. Passengers are having to take a 54-mile coach trip between the two stations.
East Coast Mainline operator National Express said passengers were facing delays of more than an hour.
The track is expected to remain closed until 0600 GMT on Wednesday.
Engineers are in Thirsk, the site of the power line problem, carrying out repairs.
The problem is likely to cause delays for thousands of passengers.
The East Coast Main Line links London with Scotland, calling at Peterborough, Leeds, Doncaster, York, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Inverness.
Passengers travelling between York and Newcastle in both directions will have to take the replacement coach service.
Alternative rail services are available between Darlington and Newcastle.
