Archbishop Sentamu is offering prayers for Kenyans
The Archbishop of York is visiting Kenya to offer prayers for people caught up in the country's troubles.

Archbishop John Sentamu flew out to the capital Nairobi on Thursday night on a four-day trip visiting refugee camps set up for those fleeing violence.

The religious leader will also be meeting with representatives from the government and opposition parties.

Ugandan-born Dr Sentamu said the trip was an act of solidarity for Kenyans in "their time of suffering".

The York cleric had been encouraged to go by the African state's Archbishop Benjamin Nzimbi.

Dr Sentamu added: "My prayer will be that the joy of the resurrection awaits this land.

"During their time of trouble I have decided to come and stand in solidarity and prayer with the suffering in that land."

Dr Sentamu, who was brought up under the regime of Idi Amin, said he had not forgotten that during that during those years of unrest Kenya supported Uganda.
