The club faces being wound up |
The future of Scarborough football club hangs in the balance, hours before the club faces a winding up order in front of a High Court judge in Leeds. Scarborough Borough Council's cabinet met on Tuesday to consider lifting a sale restriction on the club's ground.
But cabinet members decided they did not have sufficient information to make a recommendation to the full council.
Had the covenant been lifted, the club could have sold the McCain Stadium, paid off its debts and relocated.
Scarborough Football Club had hoped the cabinet would recommend the lifting of the sale restriction, allowing creditors to be paid and leaving enough cash in the bank to fund a new stadium.
Cabinet members decided they did not have enough time to carry out a proper consultation with taxpayers.
