Staff and customers will eventually decide which fragrances to use |
A nightclub in York is expecting the smell of sweaty revellers to be an unwelcome side effect of next month's smoking ban. Managers at Nexus say cigarette smoke currently masks body odour and the smell of stale beer, vomit and toilets.
In preparation for the smoking ban the club has installed fragrance systems which pump out smells including strawberry, chocolate and vanilla.
The club's owners have spent nearly 2,000 on the equipment.
If the trial is a success, it will buy more of the systems and customers will choose which fragrances will stay.
Club manager Allan Coleman said: "We know that once the smoke and cigars have all gone there are going to be other smells that appear.
"We want to make sure the venue is as nice-smelling as possible."
Mr Coleman said the response from customers so far had been positive.
The ban on smoking in virtually all enclosed public spaces and workplaces in England will begin on 1 July.
