Brideshead revisits stately home
Castle Howard
Castle Howard has been used before to film the classic tale
Castle Howard near York is to be used to film a Hollywood version of Evelyn Waugh's Brideshead Revisited, it has been announced.

Filming at the historic house will take place in June and July.

Simon Howard, who lives at the stately home, was "delighted" the venue was to be one of the "central players" in the new production by Ecosse Films.

The house was used as the location for Brideshead in the 1981 Granada TV series of the classic tale.

'Provided inspiration'

Mr Howard said: "Castle Howard undoubtedly provided some inspiration for Evelyn Waugh's Brideshead with its dome and fountain, and we are proud to be part of the new Ecosse Films production."

One of Britain's top tourist attractions, Castle Howard was built in 1699 and took more than 100 years to complete.

It has been synonymous with Brideshead Revisited for many visitors since the 1981 television series starring Anthony Andrews and Jeremy Irons.

The new version, which will be released in the UK by Buena Vista International, is to be part funded by regional film agency Screen Yorkshire.

It will feature Michael Gambon and Emma Thompson as Lord and Lady Marchmain, Ben Wishaw as Sebastian Flyte, Matthew Goode as Charles Ryder and Hayley Atwell as Julia Flyte.

A Castle Howard spokeswoman said the house and grounds would remain open during filming but opening hours could change.
