Off-roaders stopped in clampdown
Off road
Off-road driving has been blamed for damaging ancient tracks
Police have stopped dozens of motorbikes and 4x4 vehicles in a crackdown on illegal off-road driving in the Yorkshire Dales.

Officers mounted an operation at the weekend to enforce a ban which came into force in September to protect ancient tracks in the national park.

Some 46 bikers and three 4x4 drivers were stopped but nobody was arrested.

A park authority said the operation had helped to educate off-roaders about the need to keep within the law.

Police and park officials also warned they are planning more joint patrols in coming weeks.
