Affordable homes promised by PM
New measures to help first-time buyers will benefit house price "hot spots" such as York, the Prime Minister said.

Mr Blair said a new shared equity scheme was a major step forward to helping people onto the housing ladder.

York's Labour MP Hugh Bayley asked at PM's Questions what plans were in hand to increase affordable housing in house price "hot spots" in his area.

The PM said the equity scheme, plus "very considerable investment in social housing", would make a difference.
