Coastal road blocked by blizzards
A stretch of coastal road in North Yorkshire was closed amid heavy snow and driving winds.

The A171 between Scarborough and Whitby was blocked early on Friday morning as two inches (5cm) of snow fell in blizzard conditions, police said.

It remained impassable for about two hours as snow was cleared and officers attempted to remove an abandoned lorry.

Drivers were urged by police to exercise caution on roads across the North York Moors towards the coast.
