Three of the most dangerous roads in Britain run across North and West Yorkshire, a report by the AA Motoring Trust has revealed. Figures based on data from 850 main roads show that biker deaths continue to plague some rural main roads.
The A59 Skipton to Harrogate road and the A65 near Long Preston in North Yorkshire feature alongside the A62 near Huddersfield.
But, the report says, Britain's roads are still among the safest in Europe.
A Highways Agency spokesman said: "The safety performance of the strategic road network continues to improve markedly ahead of the continuing growth in road transport and we are on track to achieve the government's targets for improvement.
"UK roads are among the safest in the world and this has been achieved through continual work in all areas of road safety."
