Residents claims the speed bumps are not deterring cars |
A street in North Yorkshire once named as the UK's worst rat-run is still too busy - despite new traffic-calming measures, residents have claimed. About 700 cars every hour use Wyekham Street in Scarborough to get from one side of the town to the other.
Speed bumps were installed in the road last week but residents say the noise and pollution is as bad as ever.
In a statement, Scarborough Borough Council said more time was needed for the new measures to take effect.

Wykeham Street consists of terraced housing and, with two schools on the road, is a popular place for families.
Resident Chris Jones, who has spearheaded a campaign to stop people using the road as a rat-run, said: "I was hoping the council would address our concerns - clearly I don't think they have done.
"I have to wear ear plugs. I've got thick double glazing and I've relined the roof just to cut the noise down."
Mr Jones moved into the street more than 15 years ago and said the problem had progressively worsened.
"We are seriously considering moving house," he added.
Scarborough Council said it would be premature to comment on the effects of the traffic-calming scheme so soon after its introduction.
But it said traffic would be closely monitored and changes would be introduced if necessary.
Transport 2000, an independent body concerned with sustainable transport, named Wyekham Street as the UK's worst rat-run in 2003.
