The Duke of Edinburgh joined veterans for the 60th anniversary

Surviving veterans made their annual visit to the Kohima memorial at the Dean's Garden at York Minster on Sunday.

A memorial service was held for those who died fighting the Japanese in the battle in India during World War II.

Veterans met at Imphal Barracks which are named after the area where the British Army first met Japanese troops.

The Battle of Kohima was considered by the British Army as the turning point in WWII in Asia.

In March 1944, 15,000 Japanese soldiers moved through Burma and invaded India.

Just over 2,000 British soldiers fought at Kohima, with the last few months of the battle being fought on a tennis court.
