Chocoholics will soon be able to indulge even when on a diet |
Nestle Rowntree has started producing a new low-carbohydrate version of the KitKat and Rolo at its York factory. It is the first time a British confectionary company has made a chocolate specifically aimed at the 3m people in the UK who are following an Atkins style diet.
The company says it has taken years to develop and if it is a success it could be rolled out to other products.
The chocolate was created by replacing sugar with polydextrose and sweeteners.
Sam Hunter, from Nestle Rowntree said: "We are constantly investigating new consumer trends and how we can respond with products that our consumers want.
"This launch is significant as we are the first UK confectionery company to develop a low carb alternative that doesn't compromise on taste, texture or appeal."
