Dentist crisis deepens in county
People living in York who need to see a dentist are being told there are no NHS dentists taking on new patients.

NHS direct says all the dentist's books are full and they have the option of going outside the area or paying for private treatment.

The Selby and York Primary Care Trust acknowledges the shortages, but says some days there are spaces, and on others there are not any.

Anyone in need of urgent treatment should contact NHS direct.

The dental problem in York has been made worse following the decision by a handful of dentists to stop seeing NHS patients.

The North Yorkshire shortage of NHS dentists hit the national news in February after queues formed for several hours outside a new practice in Scarborough.
