TSYS handles credit and debit card payments |
A North Yorkshire market town is to become the hub for millions of credit card transactions with the opening of a new European base by a US data giant. Georgia-based TSYS has invested 20m in a state-of-the-art data processing facility in Knaresborough, creating 50 new jobs.
The site will handle credit, debit and loyalty card transactions from more than 20 million accounts across Europe.
It replaces a temporary base in nearby Harrogate, which will close.
Digital economy
TSYS decided to locate its new centre in Knaresborough after working closely with regional development agency Yorkshire Forward's staff in Atlanta, Georgia.
Yorkshire Forward deputy chairman Richard Gregory, who officially opened the site on Wednesday, said: "This is a valuable new investment into the region, bringing high-quality, sustainable jobs in the high-growth digital industries sector.
"It is a clear recognition of the region's strengths in this field."
High-tech digital industries employ almost 80,000 people in the Yorkshire and Humber region, generating 3bn for the local economy.
