Dutch dentist ends assault appeal
Aria Van Drie in the surgery
Aria Van Drie left the practice soon after it opened
A Dutch dentist who left her practice in Scarborough after it emerged she had a criminal conviction in the Netherlands has withdrawn her appeal.

Aria Van Drie, 60, was given 240 hours community service for her part in an assault on a fellow dentist.

Her appeal was due to be heard on Monday in Amsterdam but was withdrawn before the hearing.

Hundreds of people queued to register as NHS patients with Ms Van Drie when she opened her surgery in February.

But it closed within a fortnight once her conviction became known.

Her Greek colleague, Irene Tsanidou, also left after the General Dental Council revealed she was not registered to practice in the UK.

Michael Whitworth, chief executive of the Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale Primary Care Trust, said moves were under way to find new NHS dentists for Scarborough.

He added that Ms Van Drie was highly qualified and had been strongly recommended by colleagues.
