These castles will share in a 70,000 restoration project |
Urgent repairs are to be carried out at five monuments in North Yorkshire. English Heritage has set aside 70,000 for work at Newton Kyme Castle, Seamer Manor House, Neville Castle, John of Gaunt's Castle and Crayke Castle.
Very little remains of these buildings and the work is designed to prevent them collapsing completely.
It is hoped that once the work is completed next spring, the five buildings can be removed from the Buildings at Risk register.
John Hinchliffe of English Heritage said: "In a region blessed with many outstanding castles these smaller sites are easily overlooked.
"But they are often cherished by local people."
