Ideas wanted to reduce congestion
Cyclists on cycle path
New cycle routes are among the options
Residents of York are being asked for their views on how to make it easier to travel around the city.

Options being put forward by the city council include congestion charging as well as more bus lanes and better cycle networks.

Meetings will be held over the next nine months with York's business, voluntary and environmental organisations.

Members of the public will also be able to email their comments to the council.

'Realistic' ideas

At the end of the consultation, the City of York Council will produce its transport plan for the city.

Martin Revill, the council's head of transport planning, said: "This consultation gives us an opportunity to find out how people would like to travel in York in future."

But Mr Revill warns that ideas put forward must be realistic.

"People need to think about what their plans will mean in real terms and whether they are prepared to live with the measures needed to reduce congestion," he added.
