NHS dentist leaves new practice
People queuing to register for NHS treatment
Registered patients do not need to re-register with the practice
A dentist recruited by a new NHS practice has left after just 10 days amid a legal wrangle.

Dr Aria van Drie, 60, is returning to the Netherlands to await the outcome of a court appeal next month.

On 17 February, she joined the Queen Street practice in Scarborough, which attracted more than 3,000 applicants for its NHS register.

The health authority has closed the surgery and said it would reopen when they had appointed two new dentists.

Exemplary references

Chief executive of the Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale PCT Michael Whitworth said their first concern was to maintain public confidence in NHS dentistry.

"There has never been any question about Mrs Van Drie's clinical ability.

"She is highly qualified and has exemplary professional and character references.

"We are extremely sorry for any inconvenience caused to patients and will do everything in our power to re-open the surgery in the near future."

Patients who have already registered with the practice do not need to re-register.
