Health fears over radar base upgrade
RAF Fylingdales, North Yorkshire
The station is part of the 'Son of Star Wars' programme
People living close to RAF Fylingdales in North Yorkshire are worried about the effect an upgrade of the station will have on their health.

The role of the North York Moors station is due to be expanded as part of the United States' "Son of Star Wars" missile defence system.

Campaigners have criticised the scheme saying increased radar emissions could cause health problems.

They are meeting the Armed Forces Minister Adam Ingram at Thornton-le-Dale to discuss their concerns.

Roger Sellers lives a mile from the base. He said: "We have a problem with cars and modern day motorcycles that once they have stopped you can't get them to go again due to the frequencies from Fylingdales interfering with alarm systems.

"That's very worrying. What are these signals? If they have that effect on cars what effects do they have on people? We don't know."
