Young people will be encouraged to stay in the rural community |
Young people are being encouraged to try their hands at the agricultural trade. Growing Roots provides practical help with start-up finance, business mentor support and training, information and contact with sustainable businesses for young people living in rural communities.
It has been set up by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society (YAS) and funded by regional development agency Yorkshire Forward.
John Craven, presenter of BBC's Countryfile, officially launches the project at the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate on Tuesday.
The YAS hopes Growing Roots will help to develop agricultural innovation and enterprise throughout Yorkshire.
Chief executive Nigel Pulleyn said: "We think this programme is particularly helpful to target the incomes of farms.
"It means the young people can stay in the rural community rather than go to the city and move away."
