Homes and businesses were affected by the water problem |
Thousands of homes and businesses in Harrogate faced disruption to their water supplies after a problem at a local treatment works. Houses, pubs, clubs and even the district hospital were left high and dry on Monday evening after a technical fault at the Harlow Hill treatment works.
Yorkshire Water says it was installing new equipment at the works around 1700 BST when a technical fault shut off the water supply to a large area of the spa town.
Work to rectify the fault was completed on Tuesday but residents have been warned to expect further disruption to supplies.
Emergency water supplies were deployed to hospitals, nursing homes and other vulnerable sections of the community along with bowsers being placed at strategic points for householders' use.
