Two visitor attractions in North Yorkshire are being toured by royalty as part of British Tourism Day. The Duke of Kent is one of 10 members of the royal family backing the "theme day".
He will visit Fountains Abbey and the Studley Royal Water Garden, near Ripon, owned by the National Trust.
Later he will view a new contemporary sculpture exhibition at nearby Newby Hall and Gardens.
National economy
The Queen and Prince Philip will get the chance to inspect a miniature version of Buckingham Palace on a visit to Legoland, while the Prince of Wales will walk Edinburgh's Royal Mile.
It is hoped the royal visits will help counter the fall in foreign holiday makers and revive one of Britain's largest industries.
A Buckingham Palace spokeswoman said: "This underlines the importance of tourism to the national economy.
"The wide variety of venues being visited shows how much the UK has to offer tourists both from home and abroad."
The decline in British tourism is being blamed on the sars outbreak and the war in Iraq.
