Floods devastated areas of North Yorkshire in 2000 |
The Environment Agency has appealed to people whose homes are at risk of flooding to join a free early warning service. The scheme gives residents an automatic phone call when river levels become dangerously high and threaten their property.
The agency was surprised at the reluctance of people in the Yorkshire Dales to join the scheme after the flooding in 2000.
Just 300 households signed up to the initiative after 1,200 letters were sent out.
The agency is hoping for a better response by promoting the scheme again.
