C difficile has been a contributory factor in hospital deaths |
The deaths of eight people at a second Norfolk hospital have been linked to the C. difficile bug. The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King's Lynn confirmed eight deaths in the last three months were caused by the bug and it was a factor in five others.
It is not known if this C. difficile bug, which causes severe diarrhoea and vomiting, is the strain found at the James Paget Hospital in Gorleston.
The hospital had been bringing down its rate of infections over the past year.
Like the James Paget, the hospital had been refining its use of antibiotics to make patients less vulnerable to hospital acquired infections.
