Barry Garner was first in the queue to take home one of the 130 dogs |
Animal lovers wanting to adopt 130 dogs from among 350 animals seized in Norfolk by the RSPCA swamped the centre where they were being kept on Friday. So many people arrived at Block Fen in Wimblington, Cambs, officers were turning away would-be owners, many of whom had travelled a long way.
First through the gate was Barry Garner from March who queued from 0530 BST.
He said it was "love at first sight" when he saw Shauna, a two-year-old gold and white lhasa apso.

RSPCA Supt Rim Wass said the response had been fantastic with about 300 people wanting to adopt one of the dogs. "We have had 85 families through the door which is more than enough to re-home them all.
"It has been about the most satisfying result of my whole career," he said.
"To take 130 dogs from a pack and see this kind of response, where they are being invested in as much as they are, is wonderful."
The would-be owners came from as far afield as Hertfordshire, London and the south east in response to an RSPCA appeal.
New owners will have to pay a minimum donation of 100 which covers the cost of neutering and vaccination.
Also among the pets seized from the squalid conditions at the house near Cromer last week were 48 cats, 80 rabbits and 86 guinea pigs.
The cats are being re-homed by the Cats Protection League and the RSPCA is working with local charities to re-house the other animals.
