The chief constable of Norfolk Police is leaving after just over two years, to take up a post at the Metropolitan Police Service. Andy Hayman joined Norfolk in December 2002 after serving as deputy assistant commissioner in Essex.
On Wednesday the Met announced his appointment as specialist operations assistant commissioner.
Norfolk Police said that under Mr Hayman's leadership the county achieved the UK's top crime reduction figures.
Norfolk Police Authority chairman Jim Wilson said: "He has adopted an open, transparent style and instigated a number of policing initiatives including the ongoing high profile Operation Harrier against prolific and persistent offenders."
A date is yet to be agreed for Mr Hayman to take up his new post.
