 British Sugar wants to use sugar beet as fuel |
Plans have been unveiled to build a �20m biofuel factory to turn sugar beet into bioethanol. British Sugar put forward proposals to build the plant at its Wissington factory near Downham Market in Norfolk.
King's Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council planners will now consider the application.
The company hopes to produce 55,000 tonnes of bioethanol a year. The fuel could be used in road vehicles and by industry or help generate electricity.
Trevor Smith, British Sugar's head of development, said: "This application represents a significant step in the feasibility planning of this project.
"A final decision on a major project such as this depends on the outcome of our current approval applications and commercial negotiations."
