The 'meanest' town in Britain has raised 13,000 for Christmas |
A town dubbed the "meanest in Britain" for having a Christmas decoration fund of a mere 5 last year has raised 13,000 for the 2004 festivities. Traders in Diss, Norfolk, have pledged to shed their "Scrooge" image.
They have been marshalled into activity by toy shop owner Roy Minshull and have dug deep into their pockets this year.
He said: "The stories were a bit unfair. It wasn't that we had only raised 5. There was only 5 left in the fund."
They now aim to bring a lot more colour to the market town in South Norfolk this Christmas.
"We think raising 13,000 for lights this year is a great achievement and hopefully it will help us shed the Scrooge image," Mr Minshull said.
