Broadcaster Sir David Frost is the first of 14 people to be honoured by the University of East Anglia this week. On Tuesday the Norwich-based university is awarding Sir David an Honorary Doctor of Civil Law degree.
Sir David, the son of a vicar in Suffolk, pioneered television satire in the 1960s.
Author Louis de Bernieres, from Suffolk, will receive an Honorary Doctor of Letters, on Wednesday.
The university, with a strong commitment to development studies, is also to honour Bob Geldof a member of the new Commission for Africa, which was his brainchild.
Famine relief worker
The hit song he inspired Do they know it's Christmas raised �8m for famine relief in Ethiopia and the simultaneous Live Aid concerts in London and Philadelphia and Sport Aid raised �50 million each.
He will become an honorary Doctor of Civil Law.
Prolific British film director Stephen Frears will receive an Honorary Doctor of Letters degree and children's author and illustrator Shirley Hughes becomes a Doctor of Letters.
Regional people
Local people are also to receive awards.
Patrick Snowball, executive director of Norwich Union receives a Doctor of Civil Law in recognition of the continued collaborations between the insurance firm and various departments of UEA.
John Alston receives a Doctor of Civil Law for his work as leader and chairman of Norfolk County Council as well as other local bodies and commissions.
A long serving lay member of the UEA Council, he recently retired as its Vice-Chair.
Educated at Wisbech Grammar School, Prof Sir Stephen Littlechild, Principal Research Fellow at the Judge Institute of Management Studies, Cambridge, receives an Honorary Doctor of Civil Law.
The honorary degrees will be conferred at this year's Congregation ceremonies which take place between 13 and 16 July.
