Lottery winner Michael Carroll is charged with handling stolen goods |
A jackpot Lottery winner has blamed a damaged letterbox for missing a court hearing on Friday. A warrant was issued for Michael Carroll's arrest when he failed to appear before King's Lynn magistrates.
Mr Carroll, 21, of Swaffham, Norfolk, a former dustman who won 9.7m, denies receiving stolen power tools and trying to handle a stolen hedge trimmer.
On Saturday, his solicitor Neil Meachem said his client had not received the letter requesting his attendance.
Mr Meachem said the notification never arrived because Mr Carroll's letterbox had been damaged.
Mr Carroll, who handed himself in at King's Lynn Police Station on Saturday, spoke only to confirm his details.
He was bailed to attend the same court on 28 May on condition he reports to Downham Market Police Station on 27 May.
