A Norfolk farmer has seen his fields invaded at harvest

More than 800 people invaded land at Weybourne in Norfolk on Saturday near a holiday home owned by former Prime Minister John Major.

Farmer Clive Hay-Smith claims revellers are planning to stay until Tuesday. He says the bizarre weather means he must harvest the crop now, but can not.

He added he has tried negotiating with the ravers but has got nowhere.

Police say they are monitoring the situation but are powerless to do anything unless there is trouble and so far it has been violence free.

Broke through gateway

Farmer Clive Hay-Smith said: "They broke in through a gateway further up the farm and used four-wheel drive vehicles to drag in a big diesel generator.

"It is very difficult to know who is organising the event because it is a collective.

"So it is almost impossible to talk to them to get round the situation.

"We don't want to antagonise people but it is a difficult set up and we need to get to the land. We want to get it solved."

The ravers drove through a crop of corn to get to the clifftop site and say they'll probably wait until Tuesday to leave after three days of partying.

John and Norma Major were at their holiday home until Saturday, but left before the influx began.

Piles of rubbish litter the site and a nearby field due to be combined this week has been used as a toilet, Mr Hay-Smith said.
