Campaign aims to recruit builders
Construction worker
Skilled workers will be needed for large projects in the future
A campaign to recruit nearly 50,000 more construction workers in the east of England is being launched on Monday.

Ruth Cass, of the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) said the builders will be needed over the next five years to fill a skills shortage.

Their campaign is aimed specifically at school leavers as they receive their GCSE and A-level results.

This is a boom period for construction, with multi-million pound projects under way across the east of England.

The Chapelfield development in Norwich, one of the largest building sites in Europe, will have 114 homes, 90 shops and 1,000 parking spaces.

Workers from abroad have been recruited to work on the project because of a lack of local applicants.

And the new Colchester garrison, a huge government private finance initiative project, will need skilled workers.

The CITB's campaign will use television, posters and online media to try to reach potential construction workers.
